JADA PINKETT SMITH SHARED A NEVER-BEEN-SEEN POEM FOR HIS 50TH BIRTHDAY WITH TUPAC

On Wednesday, June 16th, the famous 2Pac turns 50 years old. To commemorate the occasion, Jada Pinkett Smith shared a never-before-seen poem penned by the late rapper on Instagram.

“Tupac Amaru Shakur would have been 50 midnight tonight!” In the caption, she wrote. “As we prepare to celebrate his legacy … let’s remember him for that which we loved most … his way with words. Here are a few you may have never heard before. Happy ‘you goin’n to be 50 at midnight’ Birthday Pac! I got next. P.s I was planning to post tomorrow which is why the video says today is Pac’s bday. But I decided to start earlyyyyy.”

Before reciting “Lost Soulz,” Jada Pinkett Smith explained the poem’s context and stated that she believed 2Pac would be ok with her sharing his thoughts with the public.

“I went down memory lane over the years,” she remarked. “Pac wrote me many letters and many poems and I don’t think this one has ever been published, honestly. He had a song called ‘Lost Souls’ on the Gang Related soundtrack but I believe this was the original concept because he wrote this, I believe, when he was at Rikers [Island]. And I was like, I don’t think he would have minded that I share this with you guys.”

According to 2Pac, “Some say nothing gold can last forever/And 2 believe this [I] need no proof/I have witnessed all that was pure in me/And be changed by the evil men can do/The innocence possessed by children/Once lived inside my soul/But surviving years with criminal peers/Has turned my warm heart to cold/I used 2 dream and fantasize/But now I’m scared 2 sleep/Petrified, not to live or die/But to awaken and still be me.”

He goes on to say, “It is true that nothing gold can last/We will all one day see death/When the purest hearts are torn apart/LOST SOULS are all that’s left/Down on my knees I beg of God/To save me from this fate/Let me live to see what was gold in me/Before it is all too late.”

After meeting in high school at the Baltimore School for the Arts, Jada Pinkett Smith became close friends with 2Pac and was greatly affected by his murder in a drive-by shooting on September 13, 1996. During an episode of her Red Table Talk show in 2018, she discussed the passing of 2Pac.

“I’ve had a lot of loss,” she said. “So many of my close friends gone. They didn’t make it to 30. They didn’t make it past 25. A lot of people talk about my relationship with Pac and figure that out. That was a huge loss I my life.”

She added, “Because he was one of those people I expected to be here. My upset is more anger because I feel like he left me. And I know that’s not true and it’s a very selfish way to think about it… I really did believe he’d be here for the long run. And when I think about it I still get really mad.”

SNOOP DOGG IS ON DANILEIGH’S NEW DEF JAM ALBUM, BUT FANS ONLY SEE ONE THING

Snoop Dogg’s new job as an executive at Def Jam Recordings has begun. DaniLeigh shared a series of photographs on her Instagram account on Monday (June 14), showing off her latest studio session with D-O-Double-G as she welcomed him to the Def Jam family.

In the caption, she writes, “You can’t even see ur future I’m choosing mine. pressed play on uncle snoop yesterday. stay tuned. && welcome to @defjam.”

DaniLeigh, who was formerly in a relationship with DaBaby, looked to be urgently attempting to hide what seemed to be a baby bump, which fans couldn’t help but notice. DaniLeigh was accused of concealing a pregnancy in a series of comments on The Shade Room’s Instagram account (and on her own post).

“She tryin her hardest to hide that baby,” one person wrote, and another person added, “Why she hiding DaBaby?,” a sly allusion to the putative father.

Of course, this isn’t the first time it’s happened. DaniLeigh’s name began to trend in March when a video of her looking considerably heavier in the stomach area at a Los Angeles meet-and-greet went viral. People assumed DaBaby was the one who got her pregnant, despite the fact that they had broken up a month prior.

Dani’s controversial “Yellow Bone” song created further controversy on social media, and the couple’s separation was confirmed just a few weeks later. Her second apology was ineffective as well. The Def Jam Recordings musician revealed during an Instagram Live session that she couldn’t be a colorist since the Blame It On Baby rapper was her boyfriend at the time.

“It can be a personal thing to certain people ‘cause colorism is a real thing,” In part, she stated. “But I’m not that. I’m not a colorist or a racist. I date a whole chocolate man. I have chocolate friends. Skin is not something I even see. Because you don’t know me it’s like let me tell you guys what I meant by that. Hopefully you guys can watch it with an open heart and genuine mind. I’m sorry, again. I offended people who are truly offended. I am sorry.”

Despite the drama and separation, DaniLeigh appears to be in good hands and moving forward with her career. It remains to be seen whether a baby will appear in the near future. After all, Iggy Azalea was able to effectively conceal her pregnancy and wait until the kid was born before speaking publicly about it. If DaniLeigh is truly expecting a kid, this might be the case.

THE JUNETEENTH MUSIC FESTIVAL WILL BE TREATED LIKE SUMMERTIME ’88 BY RAKIM AND BIG DADDY KANE

Both Rakim and Big Daddy Kane are Hip Hop icons in their own way, revered as masters of their genre for decades.

Kane, who rose to prominence with The Juice Crew in the late 1980s, has been immortalized in Hip Hop history owing to albums like Long Live The Kane in 1988 and It’s A Big Daddy Thing in 1989.

Rakim, meanwhile, is known as the “God MC” for his otherworldly rhyming abilities and is revered for classic Eric B. & Rakim tunes like “Paid In Full,” “I Know You Got Soul,” and “Don’t Sweat The Technique.”

Rakim and Big Daddy Kane will perform at the WPA Juneteenth & Black Music Festival in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday (June 19), also known as Juneteenth, a festival commemorating the liberation of individuals who had been enslaved in the United States.

The event will certainly evoke memories when both MCs perform their unique masterpieces as part of a three-day lineup.

Rakim has spent his entire life studying Hip Hop culture. He revealed why he listens to newer musicians in an interview with The Chron last month.

“I’m a big fan of Hip Hop, so I try to listen to a little bit of everything,” he said. “Kendrick, Cole, Hit-Boy, Lil Baby. These brothers is making good music and good songs that catch people’s attention. I try to listen to everything and keep my ear to the street.”

Big Daddy Kane, who was recently featured in MC Serch’s new podcast Did I Ever Tell You The One About, is now filming a new documentary called Paragraphs I Manifest, which will include JAY-Z and others. On June 5, the two Hip Hop heavyweights teamed together to record one of the documentary’s last interviews, and Kane subsequently posted a pic of them both on set.

While their celebrity pals filled the comment section, he wrote in the post, “Brooklyn In Da House!” Rapsody, a Roc Nation rapper, added a couple heart emojis to Diggin In The Crates OG’s post. “That’s what’s up brother,” Lord Finesse wrote, while MC Serch added, “Can’t Wait!”

The WPA Juneteenth & Black Music Festival will take place at Point State Park on June 18, 19, and 20 and will feature not only Rakim and Big Daddy Kane, but also The Ohio Players, Raheem Devaugh, and others.

DRAKE AND MURDA MOOK REUNITE 6 YEARS AFTER PROPOSING A BATTLE RAP SHOWDOWN IN ‘BLACKOUT 5’

It’s no secret that Drake enjoys battle rap, and he’s made it clear over his decade-long career that he values the genre. Drake was in the middle of a planned showdown with battle rap icon Murda Mook in 2015, but nothing came of it as Drake became a megastar.

Despite being one of the most well-known rappers on the globe, the 6 God still finds time to participate in the underground fight rap scene. Drake shared a photo of himself and Murda Mook laughing on Instagram on Sunday (June 13), leaving battle rap fans disappointed that the clash never went place.

Drake arrived by the URL NOME XI battle rap event on Saturday (June 10) and contributed $50,000 to the main event battle between Geechi Gotti and Rum Nitty. The moment Drake ran into Mook backstage during the event, though, was the one that had everyone talking. But the reunion was all about good, as the rappers exchanged a few laughs and reminisced on what would have happened if they had fought in 2015.

“Me and @murdamookez talking shit about our bars for the battle that never happened ? woulda smoked u,” Drake wrote in the caption.

Mook rushed to Instagram to post the shot, along with a post explaining why the fight with Drake never went place.

Like I told you @champagnepapi ….whoever “suggested” for u not to actually go thru with our battle….. I hope you pay them handsomely! ??? #TheySavedAGOAT #FRIENDLYHUMOR,” Murda Mook wrote in the caption.

Despite the fact that the war between Drake and Murda Mook appears to be over, the battle rap community is still waiting for Drizzy to put his bars to the test. Drake, on the other hand, may be content to work behind the scenes to help shape the culture.

Drake signed a multi-year contract with Caffeine in February 2020 to help deliver the Ultimate Rap League to audiences all around the world. In collaboration with URL, the world’s largest battle rap platform, Caffeine will co-produce and live stream rap bouts.

“I’ve always loved URL and admired what Smack and his team have been able to create,” At the moment, Drake stated. “It just wasn’t easily accessible. It’s exciting to be in a position where I’m able to bring Caffeine to the table and help provide URL with the tools they need to elevate the viewing experience and make it more accessible to fans.”

T-PAIN SAYS NICKI MINAJ GHOSTED HIM IN THE STUDIO, SO NICKI MINAJ KEEP IT A BUCK.

Nicki Minaj isn’t afraid to confess that she’s made some blunders in her career. T-Pain issued an apology after going on record with The 85 South Show and claiming she never followed through on their promises to collaborate in 2007.

“We was about to work together and she stopped responding,” T-Pain clarified. “I was like, ‘Nick, let me know what’s going on.’ She was like, ‘Hey, I’m an artist too and I’m working on my shit so ya know. Baby, chill.’ And I was like, ‘Oh… My heart.’ Maybe I was in love with Nicki Minaj.” (theshaderoom)

Despite his disappointment, T-Pain remained confident that the move was not “malicious.”

Nicki Minaj swiftly addressed the failed collaborative effort in The Shade Room‘s comment section after viewing T-interview Pain’s and chastised herself for not accepting T-offer Pain’s at the time. T-Pain, after all, had a No. 1 Billboard album and was one of the hottest singers on the scene at the time.

“I don’t remember this AT ALL but it DEF sound like smthn I would say,” she wrote. “Omg what was I thinking? He was already a really big artist. I was still underground. Chileeeeee I used to b buggin yo. I was under so much pressure to deliver. My bad babe, all love. I have nthn but respect for your talent. and thank you & Kanye for clearing ‘Go Hard’ for Beam Me Up Scotty last month. Listening to you over & over on that record taught me SM about harmonies & background vocals. Your vocals on that song alone are GOATED FOR LIFE. I listened to every single detail. @tpain.”

Nicki Minaj has risen to prominence in the music business over the last 14 years, while T-Pain has collected a discography of solo work and guest appearances. Lil Wayne, Boosie Badazz, O.T. Genasis, Russ, Profit Dinero, Tory Lanez, and Flipp Dinero all contributed to his most recent album, 1UP, which was released in 2019. However, unlike Epiphany, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and was later certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the project only reached No. 115.

Queen, Nicki’s most recent proper studio album, was released in 2018 and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. She just released an enhanced edition of her 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty, which debuted at No. 2 in its first week.

In April, T-Pain discovered he’d also ghosted hundreds of celebs on Instagram, from Fergie to Diplo.

MT. RUSHMORE’S ‘G.O.A.T.S OF ATLANTA’ WITH JEEZY, FUTURE, LIL BABY + MORE HAS RAP FANS LIVID

For the past several weeks, a slew of Mt. Rushmore memes have been circulating on social media, largely as a method to inspire civil discussion.

Hip Hop fans were outraged today (June 11) after MyMixtapez tweeted a Mt. Rushmore joke on Twitter depicting the “G.O.A.T.S. of Atlanta” — and looked to make a few mistakes.

While only four may be chosen, the four they picked — Jeezy, Future, Rich Homie Quan, and Lil Baby — appeared to enrage a huge number of those who came across the image. One of the first things said was, “No Young Thug or Outkast? Delete the whole shit.”

With André 3000 and Big Boi’s first album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik in 1994, Outkast placed Southern Hip Hop on the map in the 1990s. They were booed and jeered as they strutted on to the stage a year later to win The Source Award for “Best New Rap Group.”

3 Stacks was undeterred and confidently said, in what has become a legendary speech, “But it’s like this though: I’m tired of folks — them closed-minded folks. It’s like we got a demo tape and don’t nobody wanna hear it. But it’s like this, the South got somethin’ to say. That’s all I got to say.”

Outkast’s removal from the Mt. Rushmore meme, understandably, has Hip Hop fans doubting its general validity – and rightly so.

T.I., who helped pave the way for trap music’s mainstream success, was also absent, as were Jermaine Dupri, Ludacris, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, Goodie Mob, and even Pastor Troy.

Of course, Jeezy, Future, Rich Homie Quan, and Lil Baby have all made significant contributions to the culture, but Twitter clearly believes there are other musicians that are far more deserved.

Fashion is a huge thing in the hip-hop world. However, fashion has evolved tremendously through time, particularly in menswear.

Usher, the R&B icon, was trending on Twitter last night for wearing incredibly short shorts and white Prada boots.

It all began when a user commented on Usher’s resemblance to a Grambling University Majorette.

According to one Twitter user, “@Usher Yo WTF is this Dude have you lost all self respect for yourself @ Usher cause this aint the dude I watched Growing up but I guess your fame is worth the embarrassment Y’all disappoint me with this shit.”
