T.I. Admits to Snitching on a Dead Cousin in Order to Avoid Going to Jail

T.I. has acknowledged that he once turned on his deceased relative to get out of jail.

The Atlanta rapper revealed how, in the early 2000s, before his music career took off, he put a pistol case on his late relative, Toot, in a recently-resurfaced tape from an edition of his expediTIously podcast from August 2020.

T.I. has acknowledged that he once turned on his deceased relative to get out of jail.

The Atlanta rapper revealed how, in the early 2000s, before his music career took off, he put a pistol case on his late relative, Toot, in a recently-resurfaced tape from an edition of his expediTIously podcast from August 2020.

“We at Lennox Mall parking lot, we unload the truck [of stolen clothes], I’m talking to the man while I’m making the play,” he remembered. “This n-gga looking at everything like, ‘Man, y’all got, y’all got?!’ ‘Muthafucka, we done said what you want! Get this shit and go!’

“And right then, mall security [pull up] … We get in the car and we pull off, and then of course, they followed behind us and called the real police. So before we actually get on the expressway, the real police pull us over. I have a gun.”

During the trial, Toot was assassinated. Toot had introduced T.I. to DJ Toomp, the man responsible for such songs as “What You Know,” “24’s,” and “U Don’t Know Me.” Tip escaped jail time by claiming the gun belonged to his cousin at the advice of his attorney and with Toot’s posthumous approval.

“We caught those gun cases, Toot died. My lawyer said, ‘Well, you know, I could make everything go away if it was Toot’s, it was Tremel’s,’” he said. “After he had passed, I had a talk with him. Toot said, ‘I’ll take all the charges you got! If you can walk away free and put it on me, goddamn right! ‘Cause I’ll be damned if they gon’ come and muthafucking extradite me from here!’”

Asked if that’s where the claims that T.I. is a “snitch” come from by gun rights activist Nicki Davis Jr., who was a guest on the podcast, he responded: “Hell nah. Don’t nobody know about that, I just volunteered this information. That’s the only time I done ever said or gave information, because that’s my big cousin. He was dead and he told me that it was OK.”

The line “My cousin used to tell me, ‘Take this shit a day at a time’ / Told me Friday, died Sunday, Wednesday in the ground” comes from T.I.’s 2003 hit song “Rubber Band Man,” which included a reference to Toot. The Hustle Gang leader thought back on the counsel his late cousin gave him during an interview with MTV at the song’s video shoot.

“We was just talking. It was around Christmastime of 2002,” he said. “We was kicking it, he was telling me how I need to slow down. I was real hot-headed. I was just frustrated. I was really the mad rapper. I felt like, ‘I’m better than a lot of n-ggas and I ain’t where I need to be.’

“He was like, ‘Dig this, though — look what you do got. You got a following can’t nobody else match. Can’t nobody who’s at the level you at in your career, selling the amount of records you selling, go shut a mall down. It’s a reason for that. You got strength. Just be thankful for what you do have.’”

T.I. was spared jail time in that specific instance because to Toot, but as his legal issues persisted, he subsequently had to serve time in jail. The King rapper most notoriously served seven months in federal jail in 2009 as a result of a firearms charge two years earlier for which he entered a plea agreement.

When T.I. was caught on drug charges less than a year later, it violated the terms of his probation and landed him back in jail. He was instructed to complete an 11-month term in the Arkansas jail from which he had previously been freed.

T.I. is accused of punching a member of the chain smokers over a cheek kiss.

T.I. allegedly struck Andrew “Drew” Taggart of The Chainsmokers in the face after kissing him on the cheek.

Taggart and partner Chainsmoker Alexander “Alex” Pall capture a recent meeting with the Atlanta native at a nightclub in a video posted to the EDM duo’s TikTok page on Tuesday (August 16).

The video, titled “When Meeting T.I. Goes Wrong,” opens with Taggart and Tip posing for a picture before cutting to the pair talking about the event in the backseat of a car.

Before acknowledging that the punch was appropriate, the Grammy winner adds that he kissed the Trap Muzik musician because he was “feeling the vibes way too hard.”

“T.I. just literally punched me in the face,” he says as Pall laughs in the background. “We’re in a vibe and I, like, gave him a kiss on the cheek — it was totally my fault.

“And he was like, ‘Don’t do that.’ And I was like, ‘OK.’ He pushed me off and I was like, ‘Alright, my bad’ … And he was like, ‘Alright cool, we’re good.’ It was the weirdest interaction ever.”

He continues: “First of all, T.I. is fully in the right here. I was feeling the vibes way too hard and I kissed T.I. on the cheek. And he punched me in the face for it! It’s fully fine.”

T.I. still hasn’t commented on the video.

The head of the Hustle Gang, meanwhile, recently received an Outstanding Georgia Citizen Award for his charitable and volunteer work in Atlanta, where he was born and raised.

“In the grand scheme of things, we are only here on Earth in this life for a short period of time, and once we leave, people won’t remember the clothes we wore or the things we have,” he said at a ceremony at the Georgia State Capitol.

“We will only be remembered by what we meant to our family, our children and what we were able to do for others.”

In honor of his 4,000 hours of devotion to the country, T.I. also received the Volunteer’s Achievement Lifetime Award on President Joe Biden’s behalf.

IN AMSTERDAM, T.I. WAS ARRESTED: ‘IT SAID POLICE IN A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE’

On Tuesday (August 3), T.I. was reportedly detained in Amsterdam after an unpleasant bike mishap. The Hustle Gang boss says in a video posted to Instagram that he was arrested for using his phone while driving through town. He claims he didn’t come to a halt when crossing the roadway, and his handlebar shattered a cop’s side mirror.

“So I’m locked up now,” he said in an Instagram Live video uploaded by TMZ. “I’m obviously not supposed to have my phone as I’m biking and because the policeman ran into me and broke his side mirror…and I didn’t have my passport on me. I don’t know. It’ll be fine. He was extremely upset. I, myself, was out having a great time. I’m still not upset. They arrested me and didn’t even put me in handcuffs. They just opened the door and invited me to the backseat. I obliged.

“Let me see how I can make my bond real quick ’cause they don’t take cash. I got cash in my pocket, but they don’t seem to take this [laughs]. I ain’t no handcuffs put on me yet. They ain’t search me yet. We working on the buddy system out here and I like it.”

T.I. gets out of jail in another video and claims he had no idea the man shouting at him to halt was a cop.

“He was in a white van,” he says. “I didn’t know he was police. He looked like a furniture delivery …. I didn’t know he was. So then he pulled and I kept going, kept pushing like he wasn’t talking to me because I didn’t know what he was saying.

“Then he on the side and he said, ‘Stop!’ I understood that. Then I could see it said police in a different language, so I was like, “OK, this must be they police.’ I pulled over. I stopped, I slowed down at least and I guess I didn’t stop fast enough for him, so he pulled up and tried to cut me off.”

The officer then allegedly pressed up on his handlebar with his rearview mirror, knocking it off the police car, according to Tip. He was apprehended at that point.

Tiny, T.I.’s wife, was obviously on the trip, as her voice could be heard in the second video as they joked with the locals about how cops in the Netherlands don’t shoot Black people.

MT. RUSHMORE’S ‘G.O.A.T.S OF ATLANTA’ WITH JEEZY, FUTURE, LIL BABY + MORE HAS RAP FANS LIVID

For the past several weeks, a slew of Mt. Rushmore memes have been circulating on social media, largely as a method to inspire civil discussion.

Hip Hop fans were outraged today (June 11) after MyMixtapez tweeted a Mt. Rushmore joke on Twitter depicting the “G.O.A.T.S. of Atlanta” — and looked to make a few mistakes.

While only four may be chosen, the four they picked — Jeezy, Future, Rich Homie Quan, and Lil Baby — appeared to enrage a huge number of those who came across the image. One of the first things said was, “No Young Thug or Outkast? Delete the whole shit.”

With André 3000 and Big Boi’s first album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik in 1994, Outkast placed Southern Hip Hop on the map in the 1990s. They were booed and jeered as they strutted on to the stage a year later to win The Source Award for “Best New Rap Group.”

3 Stacks was undeterred and confidently said, in what has become a legendary speech, “But it’s like this though: I’m tired of folks — them closed-minded folks. It’s like we got a demo tape and don’t nobody wanna hear it. But it’s like this, the South got somethin’ to say. That’s all I got to say.”

Outkast’s removal from the Mt. Rushmore meme, understandably, has Hip Hop fans doubting its general validity – and rightly so.

T.I., who helped pave the way for trap music’s mainstream success, was also absent, as were Jermaine Dupri, Ludacris, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, Goodie Mob, and even Pastor Troy.

Of course, Jeezy, Future, Rich Homie Quan, and Lil Baby have all made significant contributions to the culture, but Twitter clearly believes there are other musicians that are far more deserved.
