Thai refugee artists Star2 and Seko release “Once In A While”, the heartfelt new single and music video. Both born in the Mae La refugee camp in Thailand, the artists draw on their rich cultural heritage with the song almost entirely sung in the Ka-ren language and the music video filmed in Thailand.

“Once In A While” features poignant lyrics that reflect the deep emotions of longing and love, such as “My tears I secretly wipe them away by myself / I love you so much, so whatever you say is never wrong / I’ll chase after you over a hundred times”. Tugging at your heartstrings, the song is beautifully layered with rich harmonies, delicate piano notes, and a backdrop of female vocals that evoke a sense of connection that feels both intimate and distant. As both artists deliver their verses with raw, unfiltered emotion, the feeling of lost love is one that is never forgotten.

Refugee pop meets hip hop artist Star2 fled his refugee camp as a child when the Burmese Army destroyed their village and attacked them in the middle of the night. Faced with overwhelming heartache and loss growing up, Star2 found his solace in music. He has collaborated with the likes of Soulja Boy, $tupid Young, Mozzy, MBNel, Luh Kel, Lil Poppa, HoodTrophy Bino, YSN Flow, and MarMar Oso just to name a few. Now, Star2 is on a mission to elevate the next generation of Ka-ren and Asian Artists.

Hoodtrophy Bino just dropped a heart melting new video for “By Your Side” from his new album HoodTrophy. This emotional track serves as a love letter to his daughter Milliani and his family, showcasing the artist’s personal journey and deep family connections as he embarks on a new chapter in his career and life.

The music video for “By Your Side” was filmed in Chicago where Bino received the Community Awareness Award at the Tylerman Social Awareness Film Festival – one of the 61 awards that his documentary HoodTrophy Bino: Breaking the Generational Curse, has received so far in the festival circuit. Even the video shoot became a family affair, with Bino’s extended family in attendance including his 86-year-old grandmother, a former Black Panther member, whose presence added a powerful generational dimension to the project.

“By Your Side” stands as a testament to the enduring power of family bonds and the resilience of the human spirit. Through his music and visual storytelling, HoodTrophy Bino continues to bridge personal narrative with broader themes of social justice, creating work that is both intimately touching and universally relevant. In a separate but related achievement, Bino’s documentary won Best Short Documentary at the Black August Film Festival. This annual event, which began as a prison-based observance, commemorates Black freedom fighters and political prisoners while highlighting Black resistance against racial oppression. The festival’s origins can be traced back to 1979 when it was initiated by the Black Guerilla Family in San Quentin State Prison – the same institution where Bino’s father is currently serving a life sentence.

Hoodtropy Bino is gearing up to release his second full-length and is currently on a North American tour with Bravo the Bagchaser followed by 19 tour dates with Soulja Boy.

Ka-ren refugee pop artists Star2 and FG Fame release the new single and music video for “I Don’t Like You”. The Ka-ren are a minority ethnic group from Myanmar who have faced persecution and forced displacement. Star2 and Fame’s music brings their stories of exile and perseverance to a wider audience.

Since 2023, Star2 has been visiting the Thai refugee camp where he was born and working with other Ka-ren artists. “I Don’t Like You” from Star2 and Fame highlights the gossip and drama that often surfaces in the face of young, unrequited love. The song is about a determined girl who tries to insist she is the girlfriend of Fame and then later, Star2. She brags to her friends and spreads rumors about her imaginary relationships, but they both let her down gently while setting the record straight. The music video, filmed on location in vibrant Bangkok, Thailand, matches captivating strings and infectious beats of the song with lush, colorful backdrops. The result is an infectious, action-packed saga highlighting the talents of these Ka-ren artists who have come together to make music despite the hardships they have faced.

Star2 reveals, “Fame likes to sing romantic songs and so do I! “I Don’t Like You” is fun and light. We had a good time filming the video in Bangkok. Ka-ren artists are underrated. The world will soon see their talent.”

Star2 has received high acclaim from tastemaker media including Ones to Watch, Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam, GQ, BET, Lyrical Lemonade, and HotNewHipHop. He is executive producing an upcoming album which will feature FG Fame along with other Ka-ren artists from around the world set for release in 2025.
