(Video) Star2 feat. Lil Poppa – “Real Life” @Star2Official

Entitled “Real Life” the song is Star2’s next hit with Jacksonville, Florida’s Lil Poppa. A child of a refugee camp, Star2 and Lil Poppa bond through their experiences growing up in inner city poverty – Lil Poppa in Florida and Star2 in San Diego, California, they both sing “I live in a place where you hear sirens all the time” throughout the song.

The urban rhythmic elements of the song are presented in an overlay of classical piano and a rush of strings that bring sorrow, angst, and despair. The haunting ballad is accomplished by an A-flat major chord progression with a B-major melody across it along with rich layers from drums, bass, and a trap drum beat. The despair is highlighted by distorted 808’s and trap drums – creating the feeling of desperation and deprivation along the backdrop of violence in the refugee camp as well as the urban hood.

The video begins with Star2 rolling his desert ATV and scrambling to the top of it sharing “you will never understand the pain that I’m feeling inside, I’ve done seen a lot of shit, shit you probably don’t even want to see in real life.” The video is set in the desert with the backdrop of a plane crash, the cockpit and fuselage at opposite ends. Star2’s lyrics tell us “I grew up in the jungle” and “if it weren’t for the music, I wouldn’t be here today.” He also remembers that to help support his grandma, who brought him from the refugee camp, “gotta hustle on the block…I was just too young, I was just a kid.”

The video ends with a beautiful rush of purple and pink smoke bombs. According to Star2: “making the video with Lil Poppa was a rush. We acted as our own stunt men and had a blast racing in the desert. Lil Poppa is humble, not flashy but able to tell an emotional story about his struggle. I respect his unique flow and vocals. He’s been through the same struggles as me but in a different way. He is one of my favorite artists and underrated.”

The visual finds Yung Gho$t rapping in a chair at a photoshoot for his graduation while he releases his pain about going through tribulations but still standing on all ten. As he rhymes over an up-tempo beat, Yung Gho$t talks about how when you’re doing good everyone is around, but as things get tough the same love isn’t there. As the video unfolds, Yung Gho$t is seen in the studio letting it all out giving listeners pain music that anyone can relate to.

Female rapper CII, who also produced the song, is all about fluidity, getting crazy, and having fun, and she really delivers on that in “Tweakin.” The track itself is infectious, and Cii’s smooth yet dynamic flow practically begs listeners to forget their problems and dance. (Video) Christina Jones – You Were My Compass

After nearly two years of international collaboration, the functional love songs that Kimiko Ishizaka wrote and first sang to save her love and relationship have been released featuring the vocals of Christina Jones (American Idol and Berklee Conservatory).

The full album release follows four singles which have together already received over 10 million streams due to their popularity amongst influencers on TikTok and Instagram.

Kimiko Ishizaka wrote the love songs in the throes of despair, faced with the unexpected dissolution of her marriage. The songs were meant to serve the functional purpose of saving her relationship, which has now celebrated 20 years and the recent birth of their first child.

The album, an international effort, was recorded mainly in The Dominican Republic, with contributions coming from studios in Germany and Los Angeles, reflecting the limitations and pragmatic necessities of making music during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kimiko and Christina were unable to meet in person, which makes this project so groundbreaking.

Industry heavyweights Corey Allen (producer, arranger, keyboards) and Allan Leschhorn (recording engineer) enabled the high production quality of the recording. Robert Douglass (Open Goldberg Project) is the executive producer and artistic director.

Kimiko Ishizaka is a German/Japanese composer and pianist best known for her completion of Bach’s unfinished final fugue, and for her performance in the Open Goldberg Variations.

Christina Jones is a student at Berklee Conservatory and was among the top-40 finalists on American Idol.

Corey Allen is a producer, arranger, and pianist who has written for The Tonight Show, The Manhattan Transfer, and has performed with Lou Rawls and Chuck Mangionne.

Allan Leschhorn has won more Latin Grammy’s than any other recording engineer. The primary recording sessions for “You Were My Compass” were held in his AllanGTR Studio in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
