Los Angeles based artist KeeZY just dropped two new singles. “Still Got It” and “I Miss You” were both inspired by the kinetic and never ending energy of Atlanta’s nightlife, and the artist found himself shifting his sound to encompass the excitement and opulence of club life. With one track hip hop leaning, and the other a pop inspired, the tracks are being released to show the duality of the artist.

In “Still Got It”, KeeZY examines the intense and long standing hustle and self assurance that is required for artists to achieve success. The track features a raw, gritty and fierce flow complete with a catchy hook highlighting the silver lining that is prosperity. With deep electronic-drenched rousing beats and penetrating bass, “Still Got It” is a swagger-filled party anthem. While in “I Miss You”, KeeZY crafts a relatable romantic slow-burned pop meets alt R&B single. The track was “inspired by an overwhelming feeling of a long distance relationship. Building anticipation that you can’t really act on for the time being,” confides KeeZY. With soulful rhythms evoking a heightened sense of yearning and lust, over a colorful kaleidoscope of beats, “I Miss You” thrills with relatability.

Sometimes nostalgia gets the best of us, and Philadelphia upstart Yung Lurks speaks to that with the new video for his song “Way Back Then.” The track perfectly captures the bittersweet feeling of missing the antics of a past relationship while still acknowledging that it was toxic. Yung Lurks’ artistry is on point – the video looks like it was filmed on your dad’s old camcorder, and the colorful neon editing gives it a distinct 90s vibe. That combined with the single’s electronic, new-age sound elevates the clips of Yung Lurks and his friends to a new level. What we are seeing as viewers is the “back then” that he raps about, placing his audience directly in his shoes in a way that only the best of the best can.

Rising New York recording artist Ol’ Smith premieres his visual “Carry On” , a film by Weekend Warriors; directed and shot by Jordan Hiraldo. The nostalgic visual was shot in the streets of Los Angeles, CA and has been gaining some traction. The melodic single speaks on O’l Smith and his trust issues with females and friends upon elevating. Ol’ Smith, whose real name is Oelis De Los Santos, was born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Bronx.
Growing up in the Bronx influenced Smith to get into hip-hop. Inspired by artists such as Andre 3000, Fabolous, Romeo Santos and many more. He also has an artistic unique style in fashion that naturally grasps people’s attention. His passion for music would only grow larger after putting his baseball career on hold after gaining recognition from universities across the nation. Smith’s unique melodic sound is therapeutic, from expressing himself through music he’s managed to make a name for himself in the streets of New York.

Coming from a rough background encouraged Smith to spend more time recording music; racking up many new singles and networking with artists and producers around the city. His records “Gotta Go” and “Go Hard” were some the firsts to really break the ice and gain heavy traction. Smith performed opening acts for artists like A-Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, UnoTheActivist, Thouxanbanfauni and more; grabbing crowds with their energetic, melodic cadence while shaping the new New York sound. Taking inspiration from the golden age of hip hop is nothing new to Liverpool legend Sion Vesill. From the moment he ventured into the world of breaks and beats, taking cues from the likes of 2-Pac, his music has had a strong root in the truths that are embodied by truly infectious beats.

It is fitting then that his latest release pays homage to one of the most creative voices of the hip hop scene. KRS’ 1995 single ‘MC’s act like you don’t know’, was the lead track on the ground-breaking album Sophomore and explores the challenges of live performance vs recording studio. It’s an ever common issue and one that artists like Vesill are keen to explore. As an artist who displays exemplary talent both on and off stage, Vesill is keen to explore the legacy of talent left by artists like KRS, and this latest release does just that. As Vesill himself states:

“I’ve always admired the pioneers of hip hop and try to learn as much as I can from them, especially the likes of KRS ONE, Kool G rap, Rakim. I feel like our new generation is neglecting the history of the art form and not saluting the fathers of hip hop. I am a student. I will always be a student of rap/hip hop, we can never stop learning.

“The moment you think you are too good or know it all is the moment you will cease to grow as an artist. I’m inspired by the past and the present so I can deliver something unique in the future, something true to myself. I am honoured to be able to even rap and I will always pay respect to those who did it before me.

“Emcees act like they don’t know” is one of the coldest beats in hip hop history so I had to reach into a bag that can only be found when the inspiration of artists like KRS one shows you how it should be done! It lights a fire in you that you have to do good, you can’t ruin these beats, they are a piece of hip hop and I will never forget that.”
