Tory Lanez’s attorneys submit a motion to get him released on bail while they contest his 10-year sentence

– Tory Lanez’s legal team is allegedly attempting to appeal the rapper’s 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion by submitting a request to have him released on bail.

The rapper Sorry 4 What is presently confined to the Los Angeles County Prison with little privileges after receiving his sentence for the July 2020 shooting earlier this month.

A “bail on appeal” request was submitted on behalf of Tory in Los Angeles on Monday, August 28, according to court reporter Meghann Cuniff, who has been carefully following the case since it started. A hearing has been scheduled for September 5.

“Ask and ye shall receive: Tory Lanez’s lawyers appear to have filed a motion to bail him out of jail as he appeals his judgment and sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion,” Cuniff wrote on Twitter.

She added: “Regarding actual motion, DA’s office says they weren’t aware anything was filed and haven’t received anything yet, but ‘132 has been dark’ which refers to Judge Herriford’s dept # and means he’s been out. But public docket entry is yesterday, hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.”

Judge David Herriford, who ruled over the trial in December 2022 and finally sentenced Lanez to ten years in prison, will preside over the hearing.

The filing follows an online argument between Tory Lanez’s defense lawyer Jose Baez and Meghann Cuniff after the latter questioned his dedication to his client by pointing out that he looked to be vacationing in Italy rather than contesting his sentence.

“2+ weeks since Tory Lanez’s lawyer Jose Baez said he’d file a motion to bail Lanez out of jail as he appeals his convictions and 10-year prison sentence,” Cuniff tweeted last week. “No motion has been filed, and I’m not sure how much of a priority it is for Baez: He’s posting Instagram stories from Italy.”

A progress report on Tory’s appeal processes was also provided by the attorney, who also stated that the rapper was “evaluating ALL of his options” and that he was unable to file a move until a few formalities had been fulfilled.

Cuniff tweeted in response to Baez’s harsh refutation: “Ignoring the unprofessional comments, the takeaway from Jose Baez’s Instagram stories today is he’s no longer sure if he’ll file a motion for bail pending Lanez’s appeal: ‘As for other motions, Tory is evaluating ALL of his options.’”

She also shared a copy of an email interaction with Baez, who praised Cuniff and assured her that he would “always be respectful” of her, on Instagram.

In the “administrative segregation unit” of the Los Angeles County Jail, which is reserved for convicts who cannot be securely housed with other detainees, Tory Lanez is now kept apart from the general population. According to reports, he is only permitted to leave his cell for two hours each day.

The 31-year-old is also only allowed three hours of fresh air each week during his required leisure time, and as is customary in the administrative segregation unit, he is checked on by jail employees every 30 minutes.
